Just thought i’d share a couple of projects that have fluttered around my head like a crazy butterflies over the last year or so. Actually if i’m honest they were probably more like one of those stubborn flies that keep banging their heads against the window and going in the wrong direction even though they are inches away from the opening and freedom.
The first stubborn fly idea actually made it out a while back and id like to tell you about it today as I think it could be seen as a way to share Shema. It goes by the name of FOLLOW THE FINGERPRINT and the idea was cooked up by myself and my best buddy and partner in crime, Ola. A couple of years prior we had set up a little non profit called Blueprint where we tried to mix creativity and volunteering – both in South Africa and locally (but thats another story). Anyway we were in between projects and we were bothered by the fact we had some money just sitting in the Blueprint pot, just doing nothing…
So we decided to take 3 lots of £50, create a stamp, print the name of a website on each note and then give it to someone we knew. The idea being that they were invited to use it to bless someone that they knew. This could involve taking them for a meal or buying them new shoes, it didn’t matter what it was but whatever it was they had to spend THOSE NOTES, so they would go out into the world (or the UK). THEN there would be a chance that somebody would see the printed note, go to the website and then get invited to….follow the fingerprint!
The invitation if they chose to accept it would be to use the money in exactly the same way – to bless someone and release the note back out for someone else to notice, be challenged and hopefully… bless someone else!
The idea was that the website would also give the opportunity for people to say how they spent the money and even locate the serial number of the note to see where it originated from.
To date we have given out over £500 worth of ftfp notes and know they have been used to bless in many different ways. We haven’t yet received a comment from a ‘stranger’ who found the note….but we hope we do soon!
Currently the website is just a blog and we haven’t really been promoting the idea beyond our friends, someone suggested that people could buy the printed notes from us as a way to spread the concept further (or buy the stamp). After hearing all about Shema from Andy I was reminded of this project and wanted to give it a new lease of life.
